Target Group: 
 
Students of the veterinary course and students of the 3rd and 4th grade of the healthcare course.
 
Project Objectives: 
 
Students will be researching the trichinosis epidemic throughout history, its spreading towards the west, survey a determined number of people about knowledge of the disease and its consequences, collect epidemiologic data about trichinosis in their counties, methods of post mortal diagnostics in pork meat, explain the referent method and its safety, ways of invasion of a human, prevention, diagnostic procedures after invasion of a human, treatment and care of the human and such patients.

PROJECT GOALS:
 
 
Raising the awareness of dangers of food, in this case pork meat.
   Informing and educating the next generations about the importance of preventive actions and preventing invasion with this microscopic parasite, which once enters the organism stays there for life.
    Students are going to research the trichinosis epidemic throughout history, its spread towards the west, methods of post mortal diagnostics in pork meat, explain the referent method and its safety, ways of invading a human, prevention, diagnostic procedures after invasion of a human, treatment and care of the human and patients as such.
    This project requires the cooperation between students of veterinary and medicinal schools, meaning intersectoral connection, the main goal is healthy pork meat for human consumption.
    The project should encourage students to independently research, analyze, compare, decide, solve problems, voice their statements, discuss and create content in the purpose of education. Students should be prepared for lifelong learning, teamwork and collaborative learning.

PROJECT TASKS:
• Research of historical data (oldest invasions in humans, appearance in the areas of the Croatian Republic, epidemics in Croatia in the 20th century)
• Appropriate sampling of pork meat (while slaughtering pigs for home purpose, in slaughterhouses)
• Diagnostic methods in pork meat (compression method, artificial digestion method)
• Prescribed procedures after confirming trichinosis in pigs
(Ordinance on measures for the suppression and eradication of pig trichinosis NN, NO 81/99)
• Preventive procedures and education (deratization, flyers)
• Diagnostics invasion in humans, treatment and care of the invaded
